December 17: The Gift of Laughter...
"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people." – Victor Borge
Dear Readers,
Ivanka sat on the couch, surrounded by her family. It was Christmas Eve, and the house was filled with the usual festive chaos wrapping paper scattered across the floor, the smell of baking pies, and her cousins running around with excitement. But despite all the activity, Ivanka felt a heaviness in her heart.
She hadn’t laughed in what felt like ages. The laughter that once flowed easily now seemed distant.
Her brother, Evan, must have noticed. He leaned over and whispered something ridiculous about their childhood memories, and for a moment, Ivanka almost didn’t react. But then it happened.
A small chuckle escaped her lips. Evan repeated his story, this time louder, adding exaggerated gestures. And then, all at once, laughter exploded from the room. Her nieces giggled, her mother joined in, and before she knew it, the weight that had held her down seemed lighter.
Ivanka laughed until her stomach hurt. It was messy, loud, and carefree. The joy of laughter simple and pure was a gift that she had been waiting to rediscover.
