December 10: Creating Peace with Loved Ones...
"Peace is not just a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal." – Martin Luther King Jr.
Dear Readers,
I stared at the stack of unsent Christmas cards on my kitchen table. At the top of the pile was the card I had written to my Sister, Ada. It had been quite a lot of years since we’d spoken. Numerous Christmases without a call, a visit, or even a message.
The argument that tore them apart replayed in My mind a misunderstanding over something trivial that had snowballed into silence. I had thought about reaching out before, but pride always stopped me & her. This year, though, was different.
Taking a deep breath, I picked up a pen and added a short note to the card: Ada, I miss you. Let’s not let another Christmas go by like this. Call me.
Three days later, his phone buzzed. “Jacob?”
I recognized the voice instantly. “Ada?.”
The conversation began haltingly, with awkward pauses and cautious words. But as the minutes passed, old memories surfaced, and laughter filled the spaces where bitterness had lived.
By Christmas morning, me and my sister were sitting together, sharing coffee and stories. The gift of peace was unwrapped between them a bond restored.
Merry Christmas Sis…
God Bless Us All…
Jacob M
